About Me

My photo
Welcome my name is Sherri. I am a follower of Jesus. I have been blessed to be the wife to my best friend Markiel. I am a mother to my tween son Amari and my preschool daughter Sanai. By God's grace I have found true joy in serving my family in our home. Even amongst all the everyday craziness I know this where God has called me to be. I learn something new everyday. I also recently became a part time bible teacher at my daughter's preschool. So I have the best of both worlds.

Tag You're It:Off To Pluto Tag

Blogger tags are always so much fun.
It's a chance to know more about my favorite bloggers.

Plus it's a great way to let you know
a little more about me.

Last week I was tagged by
Brittnei from

The tag is called
Off To Pluto
Now don't ask me about that name.
I have no idea what it's all about.
Brittnei told us to visit Jhanis from the
Vanilla Housewife blog to figure it all out.
I was more confused after reading that. Haha!
Maybe it was an inside joke.

Any who on to the questions.

1. Are you named after someone? No, not that I know of. I almost was named Kelly after my Dad's boss. That would have never worked. Don't I look more like a Sherri?

2. When was the last time you cried? Last Saturday when I was with my daughter at our church's mother-daughter lunch. We were praying together and I was just so overwhelmed with the moment. I can admit I am very sensitive. I have a reputation of being a crier.

3. Do you have any kiddos? Yes! I have a tween and a preschooler. My oldest son is 11 years old and will be 12 in August. My baby girl just turned 4 in the beginning of April. They are truly so special, and loving. I'm not just saying that because I'm their mother.
It's really true. I'm blessed.

4. If you were another person, would you be a friend to yourself?
I would have to say yes, because I try to be as supportive as possible when it comes to my friends. My goal is to show the love of Christ in all of my relationships.

5. Do you have a guilty pleasure? I have already admitted my addiction on Instagram but right now it's definitely chocolate chip cookies. Originally they were bought for my daughter's snack but I totally have taken them over. I dip them in milk and just can't resist.

6. Do you like your handwriting? Yes, I think overall it's pretty legible. What do you think?

7. What's your favorite cereal? This one is easy. Honey Nut Cheerios. I can eat them all day everyday. I have been known to have a bowl or two for dinner.

8. What is the first thing you notice about people? Their outfit, especially if they're looking fierce. I guess it's the fashionista in me. I'm always looking for inspiration.

9. What is your eye color? Dark brown. In high school I did wear light brown contacts for a while. I was always very honest though, I never pretended they were real.

10. Scary movie or happy endings? Definitely happy endings. I am a sucker for happily ever after, especially if it's a love story or about a family that get's reunited. Don't forget I'm emotional, so I love that kind of stuff. There may even be some happy tears.

11. Favorite TV show? I get in these phases where I won't watch a lot of TV and then I'll get hooked on a show and that's all I will want to watch. Recently I was up watching a 19 Kids and Counting marathon with the Duggar family. I used to watched the show a while ago, but now I began to DVR the episodes again. I really respect their strong faith & family values. They have some episodes that address the issues of courting and relationships that I wanted my son to see. It's so important for our kids to see that it's not impossible to follow God and His word.

12. Summer or winter? I'm a summer baby so team summer all the way! Though I'm beginning to appreciate the beauty of the spring.

13. Hugs or Kisses? Honestly I'm not a very touchy feely person but I've learned to be better when it comes to giving hugs. So I guess I'll say hugs. Now if we're talking about my hubby or kids then it's both!

14. What's the farthest you've ever been from home? Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to do a lot of traveling, so I would have to say Negril Jamaica for my honeymoon. My hubby has done a lot of traveling for his job so I vicariously live through him. I'm looking forward to doing some traveling once the kids are grown and gone.

15. Do you have any special talents? My mother is Deaf so I am fluent in American Sign Language. I also sign worship in my church and was part of a traveling sign choir when I first started attending my church. I don't really consider this a talent since signing is just the language I use to communicate with my mother and other Deaf people. I do recognize how God has used it as a ministry in my life to inspire others, so I am thankful and give all the glory to Him.

16. Where were you born? I was born and raised in New Jersey. I still live in the same town I was born in.

17. What are your hobbies? Right now my main hobby is blogging. Since I started blogging I have really started to love photography. I began doing a little research to be more skilled in it. I also have always loved fashion, so I have this fancy sewing machine that I need to figure out how to use, and then I can start sewing. I would love to make outfits for me and my daughter.

18. Do you have any pets? No, they don't allow pets in my apartment complex. Plus I'm not good at taking care of pets anyway. My daughter has been asking for a fish. That may work!

19. Favorite movie? Coming to America. I love comedies and this is one of the movies I can watch over and over and still laugh, even though I already know what they're going to say.

20. What color is your car? Red. I had my car for years it's a 1999 floor model Honda Civic. It's a two door with rollup windows, and everything is slowly falling apart, but it's been through so much and lasted. I have named it Percy, because it truly has persevered through a lot. Accident, stolen and got it back, repossessed and got it back(I know I was a bad girl in my early 20's), and let's not forget the abuse of my kids. Percy is a trooper!

21. What do you want to be when you grow up? Honestly I just want to be an example of Christ in all that I say and do.

For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. John 13:15

This was so much fun! I hope my answers give you
the opportunity to know me just a little more.

If there are any other things you want to know
about me feel free to ask in the comments.

Be Blessed!

What Wives Wear:Julia

Today on What Wives Wear
I have Julia guest posting from

I was really interested in Julia sharing with us how she takes
pieces that she already owns and refashions them.

I am really impressed with this talent, because I myself
always wanted to be able to do this.

Still to this day I am trying to learn how to
work my sewing machine, so I can begin working
on some projects that I have in mind.

Being able to upcyle and refashion pieces is a great way
to save money, as well as reinvent your existing wardrobe.

Another way to take advantage of refashioning pieces is
by purchasing items from the thrift store,
then refashioning them into your own look.

Now ladies this type of stuff makes me excited!
I love the idea of getting a deal by finding pieces
at the thrift store then bringing it home and making magic!

If you are just as excited by that idea as I was,
check out some of Julia's refashioned pieces and
how she styled them.
Visit her website to get the full tutorials.

Look One - Stripy Top Refashion:
I had a rather ill fitting striped T-shirt that needed some TLC.
I had seen a lovely but expensive striped color blocked top in the shops that I really liked so I found a suitable coloured striped T-shirt in a Charity shop and combined the two in a T-shirt mash up!

Full details and step by step tutorial can be found here: http://www.sumoftheirstories.com/2014/03/stripy-t-shirt-refashion.html

I wear this with dark jeans normally and in the blog photos
I wore a necklace that I made from a broken bracelet. Details of how I made the necklace can be found here: http://www.sumoftheirstories.com/2013/10/old-bracelet-to-new-statement-necklace.html . I've found it is a useful weekend "go anywhere" top but I have worn it to work too - very versatile!

Look Two - Pink Top with lace trim:
I've had this pink top for years, (literally - at least 10!) It used to be plain around the neck and tunic length with a self tie belt. Sadly the washing machine made a few of those annoying little hole on the front, about 4 inches from the hem so I chopped off the holey bit and hemmed it a little shorter.

A few years later I thought it needed freshening up and found this lace that I thought might be suitable. I just hand stitched it around the neck edge, top and bottom edges of the lace
(I did try just doing the top edge for speed but it curled up. Sometimes there is no short cut!)
My husband thought it was a new top so I guess the refashion worked!

I'm wearing it with dark jeans and pink accessories. My pink ballet flats, a selection of bangles (the pink wrapped cord bangle is another of my makes, details can be found here: http://www.sumoftheirstories.com/2014/02/3-pink-bracelets.html) and some lovely little earring that my sister in law made for me.

This is the kind of thing I wear to work as we are kind of smart casual in our office. Normally in the UK in March I would add a cardigan (I have a nice long straight navy one that I often wear with this) but we were experiencing a lovely spring day! I apologize for the shadow lines over me in the photo, they are the washing line! Our 14 year old was taking the pictures and he really doesn't notice that kind of thing.
He does however take pictures when ever I ask him and with a smile so I can't ask for much more than that, can I?

Julia really gave us some inspiration on how to take a piece that you may have just thrown away and make it brand new.
Thanks to Julia for the great tips!

Be Blessed!

Favorite Color Swap

I so excited to be a part of my very first bloggers swap.
I found out about this swap from my blogger BFF Mrsteelovelifelaughter.

I know if I want to find out any info on the latest swaps I go to her, but now I found out I can go to the Chaotic Goddess.
She has all types of swaps. Who knew?

The one thing I love about being a blogger is all the awesome blogger friends that I meet. Being part of a swap is a great way to do that. Plus you get gifts. Who doesn't love gifts?

This swap is called the
Favorite Color Swap
hosted by

It's simple you get another blogger partner,
fill a package of at least five goodies,
things that you would like to receive,
make sure they' re in your partner's favorite color,
and then send it off.

Don't worry I won't leave you hanging
I will post updates on how the swap is going.
I know you want to know all the details like what's my
favorite color, who is my partner, what's their
favorite color, and of course the big reveal of what did I get?

This is going to be fun. I'm getting myself excited
just talking about it. Stay tuned!

My Child's Salvation

I didn't grow up a Christian, so I am always a little envious when I hear of people who grew up in a Christian home or knew the Lord at such a young age.

I didn't accepted the Lord until I was in my early 20's, but I am truly thankful for my journey with the Lord. I know that God's plan for my life was and is perfect. All that I have experienced the good and the bad has brought me to where I am now, which is strong in my faith and completely dependent on Jesus.

Those are the values I want to pass on to my children. I pray everyday that I can be an example of Christ to my children through all that I say and do.

I always say that I am proud that my children are smart, successful, accomplished, but my main goal is if they have accepted Jesus in their hearts, and if they have the fruit of the spirit continually growing in their lives. That is my responsibility to be that example for my children through my own life, and making sure they know the word of God. I also know that if my children are in the Lord, He will bless them to be all of those things and more.

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

I live by this verse because it is very important to me to pass on the legacy of Christ to my children, since both my husband and I did not come from a home that served the Lord.

No matter where my husband and I came from, the change can start with us. We can start a legacy that can change the future generations of our family, and will break those past generational curses.

I believe that children can accept Jesus in their hearts at a young age. I also have personally seen how God has used and called children no matter what their ages. God's word shows us many times how he uses children and how he calls them to Him.

But Jesus called the children to Him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Luke 18:16

My son raised his little hand at the age of three years old to accept Jesus into his heart during an altar call for the kids at our church's harvest fest. I never forget that day because I felt that it was real, and the spirit confirmed it in my heart, that it was definitely my son's desire. I now see the results of that commitment as the Lord has worked in such a great way through my son's life.

Last Friday at our church's Good Friday Service I had my second chance to have that blessed mom moment when my daughter requested to pray for Jesus in her heart.

For me it came so unexpected, especially after I had a rough week of attacks from the enemy, but that's just how God works. He will bless those who are faithful.

My daughter saw another little girl go for prayer with the children's pastor and she asked me "where is she going?" I explained she is going to pray for Jesus in her heart, and then my daughter said, "I want that to!" So just that simple, I took her to pray with the children's pastor. A simple act, but the biggest decision of her life.

The pastor explained to her what it meant, and prayed, then she gave my daughter a kid's bible to take home and read.

I could see the joy in my daughter's face and we all celebrated with her that night as she danced around the church with her bible.

Now I have a mission to continue what was started that night with my daughter's prayer.
I will continue to pray for her, and read the bible to her, and set the example for her, so she can eventually pass the legacy on to her children. God is good...all the time!

Be Blessed!

What Wives Wear:Sandy

Welcome back to
What Wives Wear

This week I have the honor of featuring
another mommy blogger named Sandy.

Sandy has a fashion blog called

Her blog provides inspiration for current, new and expecting mothers
to embrace motherhood and womanhood all in great style.

Sandy started her blog when she was pregnant
and she has been going strong ever since.

Besides her wonderful blog, another plus that made me
notice Sandy was that she is a proud New Jersey girl.
After finding out about that, I knew I had to
contact her and feature one of her favorite looks on
What Wives Wear.

LOFT Lace Front Cardigan / Paige Denim Jeans (old-similar here) / MIA Babette Flats / LOFT Bead Bracelet Set / LOFT Crystal and Mesh Bracelet / LOFT Pave Gem Stud Earrings / Vera Bradley Diaper Bag (old) / Aldo Seidenbecker Tote

I love how Sandy matched the diaper bag with her lace cardigan.
That is the perfect diaper bag for a mommy on the go
It's definitely a bag you can use when with or without the baby.

Now Sandy gives us another option with a tan leather carry-all tote.
This tote bag can also be used as a stylish diaper bag, it's easy to just
throw in everything you need.

For all you moms with babies think about working with different options when it comes to your diaper bag. Find a bag that fits all your necessities but can double as a tote bag.  Then on those days when you are not going out with the baby you can still work it!

Be Blessed!

10+ Wives Club:Peggy

I am excited to introduce today Peggy our newest member of the 10+ Wives Club. Peggy deserves a special honor because of her long and strong godly marriage to her high school sweetheart.

Peggy has a heart and ministry to encourage godly marriages. On Facebook she has a women's support group called Married For Life

Peggy also had a blogtalk radio show by the same name which is how we had the opportunity to connect.

I knew from my first time meeting Peggy that she had wisdom and experience from God about marriage, and I knew I wanted to gain some of it.

1.How long have you been married?53 years July 31st 1960

2. How did you both meet?We went to high school and church together. He needed a date for his junior prom and invited me to go and we have dated ever since, then we got married and still love each other very much and have a great life.

3. How many children/grandchildren do you have?We have 6 kids. 3 are biological and 3 are adopted when they were babies from Korea. We have 6 grandkids. They are 27, 24, 9, 7, 6, and 1 year old.

4. What are your two favorite qualities about your husband? He puts our family first and takes wonderful care of me and the kids. He is a man of God and puts God first in our lives.

5. What do you and your hubby like to do for fun?We like to eat out, go to fun places, and ballroom dance.

6. What is some advice that you would give to a newly married couple? To put God first and don't ever think about divorce. Respect your husband or wife and put them first.

7. What would you say is the key to your lasting marriage? We love God and each other very much and our family. We love to be together doing anything.

8. What would be one thing you would want others to remember about your marriage? That it gives Christ glory. That we love each other deeply, and love our family very much.

I love how Peggy's answers were sweet and to the point, and she has been married for 53 years, so it proves it doesn't take a lot to have a happy and healthy marriage.

I hope you recognized the common thread throughout many of her answers. God first, your spouse, and your family(in that order.)

When we follow that order, the way God has designed it, you will see the blessings of the Lord in your marriage.

Be Blessed!

Kids Email Review

As a mom of a pre-teen, or in his words a tween, I am always making sure I protect my son from the many negative influences that flood our kids these days. We all know that we don't have to go far to stumble upon some explicit material, it's definitely all over the media.

One thing that I do know is that it is the responsibility of my husband and I to protect our children from being exposed to this material, and we make it our job to do that to the best of our abilities.

It seems like ever since my son started middle school he has officially became a tween. This includes wanting to be a part of the social media craze. My husband and I agreed to let him open up an Instagram account.  My husband and I are both following him, and we have his password and monitor his page as closely as possible. Honestly I still don't know if I am ready for all of this.

When it comes to starting a social media account it always requires an email address. My son also likes to play online games, so he tries to use my email address for all of these things.

I wanted him to have his own email account that he can use for these purposes, but I am always concerned about spam and other images he may receive having a regular email account.

When I found out about the company Kidsemail.org, I was all in for the idea of doing a review so I could check it out for myself.

This is an actual service that my son and I can use, and I would be able to give a completely honest review of this company's services.

The one feature that I really appreciated was the quickness and ease of setting up the account and adding on my son.

I also liked how I had the option to go through a series of questions,  and set the security preferences for my son's email account. The parent is in total control of who their child can send or receive emails  from, and what images or language is in the emails that are received.

You can set up your child's contact list under which you can only access under your own parent profile. I was a little confused about this process and it took me a little while of searching to finally figure it out, but afterwards it all made sense because it keeps all of those options in my control as the parent.

Kids Email is completely kid friendly and it's a great way to start teaching your child how to be tech savvy when you decide it's that time.

My son and I tested it out by emailing each other back and forth a few times, and we had a great time communicating with one another in this way.

I asked my son his opinion on his new email account and he said, " I love it!"

If you have a child that is at the age where they are ready for an email account, and you are looking for a company that provides safe email services and protection to your child, please start up your 30 day free trial today and check it out for yourself.

*I received the following services mentioned above for free in hopes that I would review and mention it on my blog. My goal is to always honestly recommend products or services that I personally use and feel would benefit my readers.

Be Blessed!
