About Me

My photo
Welcome my name is Sherri. I am a follower of Jesus. I have been blessed to be the wife to my best friend Markiel. I am a mother to my tween son Amari and my preschool daughter Sanai. By God's grace I have found true joy in serving my family in our home. Even amongst all the everyday craziness I know this where God has called me to be. I learn something new everyday. I also recently became a part time bible teacher at my daughter's preschool. So I have the best of both worlds.

What Wives Wear Link Up:Week 8

Welcome to the
What Wives Wear Link Up!
Week 8

Wedding Elegance

Last week when I was so indecisive about which dress
to choose for a family wedding, I ended up buying all three.

I figured I could bring them all home try them on with my shoes,
my hubby can help me make the ultimate decision, then
the next day I would bring the other two back to the store.

During my decision-making process I also decided to
take it to Instagram and see what you ladies thought.
(Click here to see all three choices.)

Thankfully the process was easy because there
was an unanimous vote from my hubby and
all of you for dress number one.

So without further ado here is the dress
that you all helped me chose...

Dress: Macy's, Shoes:Call it Spring, Earrings:Old Navy, Bracelet:Claire's

At the wedding and reception I was having so
much fun taking pictures of everyone else,
and dancing with my hubby and kids.

I completely forgot to take photos of my outfit that day,
which is why these photos were done later
that evening back in the hotel room.

It was almost impossible to get good lighting.

The focal point of the dress were the rhinestone straps.

As far as my accessories I decided to go simple.
I wore rhinestone cluster studs and a bracelet
to compliment the straps.

and last but not least my silver strappy heels.

This was definitely a perfect look for the wedding.
Thanks to you all for helping me choose my look.

Family Road Trip:Baltimore Bound

This past weekend my family and I
all loaded up into a van and hit the roads,
heading to Baltimore for a family wedding.

My hubby decided to get a rental mini van, and
let me tell you I loved it.

Compared to my two door broken down Honda Civic,
this mini van was like a dream.

Lots of seating, lots of space, and a dvd player.
The kids watched Frozen on the way there and
Monsters University on the way back.
We didn't hear a peep out them the whole ride.

Everything about the wedding was beautiful.
The church, the service, the bridal party, the bride,
the reception, and especially the flower girl.

I may be a little biased since it was my daughter, but I think
everyone agreed that she did great! I was so proud of her.

We got there on Friday, the wedding was on Saturday,
the next day Sunday, and we got together
with the rest of the family to check out the harbor.

Before we went over to the harbor my hubby wanted to
take a trip over to his former college, Morgan State University.

We got a chance to walk around the campus,
and my hubby took me and the kids on a little tour.

I really enjoyed it, and it was nice to see my hubby
reminiscing over the times he was a student there.

I also thought it was motivational for my son to see,
afterwards he began saying it was one of the colleges he was
now thinking about going to.

At the harbor we first went on a boat tour, and got a chance
to walk around inside the USCGC Taney.

This boat was constructed in 1935 and was in action against
Japanese planes during the Pearl Harbor attack.
It is called "The Last Survivor of Pearl Harbor."

We ended our day by having dinner with the rest of our family
at Phillips, which is known for their crab cakes.

I love seafood, but I actually didn't order the crab cakes.
I decided to have the coconut shrimp, and crab mac & cheese.
I couldn't complain I enjoyed my meal.

I did get a chance to taste my hubby's mini crab cakes, and
I did think they tasted delicious.

I love the opportunity to get away with the family,
and just have some fun.

We really did created some great memories
this past weekend, that I know we all won't soon forget.

Have you had a chance to experience the sights in Baltimore?

Do you and your family like going on road trips?

Be Blessed!

Welcome to the

Lady In Red:Wrap Dress

Dress:Merona, Tank:Thrifted, Shoes:Fioni,
Sunnies:Old Navy, Necklace:Annsterw Etsy shop
Earrings:Thrifted

The one thing that I love for the summer is quick,
comfortable, and of course cute clothing.

That is why I love wrap dresses.

Wrap dresses are also perfect because
they can compliment any body type.

This is actually one of my staple dresses that I found
at least five years ago, on the clearance rack at Target.
(Another score from the clearance rack!)

Once I saw the bold color, and the great fit
I knew it had to be part of my wardrobe.

It has truly become one of my favorites that I pull
out every year, and when I wear it I always get compliments.

10+ Wives Club:Sonya

This week I am introducing you to another
blogger wife & mom.

This is Sonya from

I got a chance to get to know more about
Sonya when we became swap buddies
for #AskAwayFriday.

If you don't know #AAF is a linkup where you can
connect with other bloggers and exchange questions,
to get to know each other better.

Click here to see my swap with Sonya.

Through our swap I got to know that Sonya loves saving,
and she loves her family.

I also found out that this year Sonya and her hubby will
be celebrating their 10 year anniversary.

Help me welcome Sonya into the 10+ Wives Club!

1. How long have you been married? We will celebrate our 10 year anniversary in July 2014.

2. How did you both meet?We met in August of 2000, while we were both working at the same place. A few of our coworkers set us up. They got us to exchange phone numbers through them.We went on our first date shortly after exchanging numbers and have been together ever since.

3.How many children/grandchildren do you have?We have two children. A six year old son and a two year old daughter.

4.What are your two favorite qualities about your husband?I love it that my husband is very thoughtful. He likes to think everything through before making a decision. I don't always take my time to carefully think about all the details, so I'm glad he does.I also, love love love that my husband is really easy going. It does not take much to make him happy. He doesn't have unrealistic expectations of what I should get done during the day because I'm a stay at home mom. He never complains if I don't have dinner done, if the house isn't clean, or things like that. I appreciate his easy going manner.

5.What do you and your hubby like to do for fun? It doesn't take much for my husband and I to have fun together. We are both home bodies, so we enjoy watching movies at home, playing video games together, and just talking to each other. Everyone once in a while we will go out for a movie and dinner.

6.What is some advice that you would give to a newly married couple? Remember that your wife/husband is just your girlfriend/boyfriend with a new title. Don't expect that person to change into what you think a husband/wife should be. Communicate with your spouse what your marital expectations are.

7.What would you say is the key to your lasting marriage? I think being friends has helped us to have a lasting marriage.

8.What would be one thing you would want others to remember about your marriage?I hope everyone remembers that we both loved each other and our children.

It is definitely a good thing to see a couple
celebrating a milestone like 10 years of marriage.

Please take some time to visit Sonya's blog, and don't
forget next month to wish Sonya & her hubby
a Happy Anniversary!

Be Blessed!

Encouraging Our Children's Future

True or untrue?
As mothers we are always looking out
for our children and their futures.

Now that we are at the end of the school year,
many of us are experiencing a new season.
Our children may be graduating and going off to college,
and we want to give them the best advice we can.

I have a while before I experience this, but I still
give my children advice and encourage
them when it comes to their success and future.

From the time our children are very little we tell them
they can be anything they want to be.
We want to encourage our children's dreams.
Parents can be a child's biggest cheerleader.

Think about it. Here's a question to ask ourselves...

Do we want our children to be all they
want to be, or everything God wants them to be?

Nothing is wrong with encouraging our children, but we must
remember to encourage them first and foremost to seek God's purpose for their lives.

Honestly it doesn't make us a bad parent if we don't teach our children that they can pursue anything they want in life.
It teaches them the importance of seeking God's will for their lives.

Another question we often ask our children is
what do you want to be when you grow up?

Our children may have good plans of what they want to be,
or as parents we even have our own ideas of which
direction we want our children to go, but think about this...

Do we want a good plan for our children's lives, or a God plan?

We can have good plans for our children and their future,
but God's plans are always the best plans.

This is one of my favorite verses because it gives such hope that
God is in control and He wants the best for us.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a  future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Do you ultimately seek your plans or God's plan for your children?

Do you find it hard to let go and trust God when it comes to their future?

Here's a prayer that can help us ask God to trust Him for His will for our children.

Dear Lord, you know how much I love my children, and want what is best for them, but I also know that you love them more. You see the full picture and I can only see a piece, so please help me to trust in your will for their lives. Also help me to encourage my children to first seek your plans for their lives, because you created them so you know what is best for them.
In Jesus name amen.

Be Blessed!

What Wives Wear Link Up:Week 6

Welcome to the
What Wives Wear Link Up!
Week 6

Military Style:"Splurge vs. Save"

I was asked to be a part of the "Save vs. Spluge"
Campaign with Creditcardinsider.com.

This was easy for me because as a stay-at-home mom
I'm always looking for a good deal when it come to clothes.

My favorite place to shop at is the thrift store
because you can't beat those deals.

Many times when I'm browsing through
the department stores I may find an item
that I like and want to buy, but I refuse to pay those
department store prices.

Jacket:Guess, Skirt:Faded Glory, Shirt:Express, Shoes:Shi by Journey,
Necklace:Thrifted, Earrings:Thrifted, Bracelet:Handmade by daughter

In the beginning of spring I had my eye on this military
style jacket, that I knew would quickly become
a staple in my wardrobe.

I just couldn't bring myself to pay over $100 for a jacket
that I could really only use for one season.

After going on a search I found this one on
the clearance rack at the Guess outlet for half the price.

Plus the day I was there they were having a sale so,
I got an additional 15% off.  I ended up paying about $25
for the jacket, and I was thrilled!

*I worked with the following company mentioned above in hopes that I would mention it on my blog. I did not receive any free products or services from the above mentioned company. My goal is to always honestly recommend products or services that I personally feel would benefit my readers.

In case you missed it this week I had the honor to
celebrate reaching 500 followers on Facebook!

I am so grateful and wanted to say
thank you & give back in some way.

I decided the best way to do just that was
to have a giveaway.

Please check it out below if you have not yet entered.
