About Me

My photo
Welcome my name is Sherri. I am a follower of Jesus. I have been blessed to be the wife to my best friend Markiel. I am a mother to my tween son Amari and my preschool daughter Sanai. By God's grace I have found true joy in serving my family in our home. Even amongst all the everyday craziness I know this where God has called me to be. I learn something new everyday. I also recently became a part time bible teacher at my daughter's preschool. So I have the best of both worlds.

#AskAwayFriday With Lanaya From Raising Reagan

Okay ladies it's that time again.
Are you ready for another #AskAwayFriday?

This week my swap buddy is
Lanaya@Raising Reagan

Lanaya blogs about her life being a
mommy to her little cutie Reagan.

Lanaya asked me some great questions this week.
Check out how I answered below.

1. Do you have a fear of anything? {Clowns, Heights, The Ocean?} No really, some people are deathly afraid of the ocean! I know people have some crazy fears out there. I am a little afraid of the dark. If I'm in a completely dark room I will be nervous. I just don't like the feeling of not knowing what's around me.

2. It is scorching in Arizona right now 109 degrees straight all week long and it’s going to heat up. In the heat the last thing I want to do is cook. What meals would you suggest?
Any meal that you don't have to use your oven. I say go with grilling or even use the crockpot. We are not allowed to grill at my apartment complex. I have a George Forman Grill, and I can cook a mean meal on it. I like to grill, veggies(yellow squash, zucchini), steak, and my all time favorite shrimp. You can even throw it all together and make shish kabobs. They're quick and easy.

3. I used to be that person that wanted to go to bed early because I got up early. Now I can stay up late {11:30pm most nights} but my internal clock still wakes me at 5:30am every morning. Do you need an alarm clock to wake you in the morning?Oh yeah I'm a heavy sleeper. My hubby always teases me because the alarm clock is on my side and sometimes it will go off and I won't even hear it. I won't wake up until my hubby reaches over and knocks off the buzzing. We have the alarm set at 5:30am too. The other times when I do hear it I will push snooze literally four or five times and won't really get up until 6:00am.

4. You are given the opportunity to shop {without a budget} at any store you choose. Which store do you go for and why? Yaay shopping! I talked a little about this two weeks ago. This question always gets me excited. I love shopping at the thrift store because I can always get three times more than what I would get at any other store. Plus the finds are always so unique. You did say without a budget, so I guess if money were no object I would pick a fancy department store like Neiman Marcus or Saks 5th Avenue. Total opposites of the thrift store.

5. Have you ever built a family tree and how far back can you trace your ancestry?I haven't ever built a family tree. I did try going onto Ancestry.com once but didn't get too far with that. I do know my great grandma is from Barbados. I also have some Native American Indian on my father's side.

6. You just wrote a very touching blog post about your husband and even though he is extremely humble and you said he wouldn’t like you bragging about him did he read your post and was he flattered? Yes I made sure he read it. He did say he was embarrassed by it, but he appreciated all that I said. I got some extra love that day.

7. Out of a box or build it yourself? Definitely out of the box. I know this may be weird, but I kinda like putting things together out of the box. I like having all the pieces, following the directions, then having the final masterpiece all put together by moi! I'm crazy like that. My hubby calls me Bob The Builder.

8. I hope you’re not too shy for this question … You and your husband have been together for a long time. What keeps the fire burning in the bedroom? I'm not too shy for this question. I actually think this is an important topic that needs to be talked about, especially since once you get married, and add in the kids, that fire quickly becomes a small spark. I think you have to remember the small things that attract your spouse, and make them a priority. Send flirty text messages while your hubby is at work, leave romantic love letters, do something unexpected or a little out of the box like dress up. Take off the sweats and give him something nice to look at.

9.What is one good trait about yourself that you see in your children? One bad trait? One good trait would be acceptance for others. I love to see my kids looking out for others no matter their differences. The bad trait would be their emotions. I'm a crier and so are my kids.

10. And my signature question:

a. Trade places with one blogger for the day ... who do you pick? Natalie from The Tiny Closet. She is my favorite fashion blogger. She lives in California, makes her own clothes, and takes great photos. I just love the simplicity of her blog. It's just great photos and great fashion, no fancy stuff. Plus secretly I'm a fashion blogger wannabe.

b. Trade places with one blog for the day … which blog do you takeover? I guess I would pick Natalie again, just so I can go to the fun locations that she takes photos at. Then I can also have her wardrobe too.

c. Trade places with one celebrity for the day … who do you become? I'm really not into celebrities, but if I have to pick one. The first person that came to mind was Candace Cameron Bure. Yes DJ from Full House, and Dancing with the Stars. I completely respect how she stands up for her faith , and she is all about her marriage and family. I guess she is still considered a celebrity right?

d. And finally … trade places with one historical figure for the day … who do you choose, what day {if applicable} and why? Last week I picked Martin Luther King Jr as the historical figure I wanted to interview, so I will pick his wife Coretta Scott King as the historical figure I would trade places with. I would love to be the wife to someone so powerful. I can just imagine how she supported him along the way. She also went on to accomplish some great things of her own after his death.
I'm sure his death was a hard experience to handle but the day he gave the "I Have A Dream" speech was probably a proud moment for a wife.

Great questions Lanaya!
I loved swapping with you this week.
I also found out that we both have
little diva daughters, so I'm sure we will
always have interesting stories to share with each other.

Be Blessed!

  1. I'm so on board with discussing intimacy after marriage. It offers only seems to be something OK to talk about if you're dissing your sex life, as in not having it in a long time. Saying you make time for it or scheduling it comes off as braggy. If I had no limit, I would have a personal stylist shop for me! I wouldn't care where the clothes came from, just as long as I felt good in them. If I had to keep the cash, it would be Lowes or Home Depot. I love to make changes to my home!

  2. Grilled shrimps! That's yummy!!
I love sleeping so much but even a little disruption can wake me up. When I get really really tired, the alarm clock is of no use. I can wake up pretty early in the morning too.

Hope you have a great weekend Sherri!

  4. I'm also afraid of the dark - being a grown up I don't share that often, but it's true! :)
I also kind of like putting together stuff from the box - bookcases, storage shelves, etc. Something about the structured step-by-step seems almost therapeutic!
I love that you mentioned flirting with your husband over text! My husband and I will do that and it really does help keep the spark there. So often when we get home there are meals to make, kids to take care of, chores to do - not much time or opportunity for flirting. Both of us getting iPhones and being able to text during the day has been awesome!

  5. I love cooking hotdogs or hamburgers on our George Foreman Grill. It gets rid of the fat and keeps the burgers moist. Plus I don't have to grill outside in the heat. ;)

  6. Oh I am such a heavy sleeper, I will also hit the snooze several times. I am also a huge night owl and I love having that little bit of time to myself after the kids are in bed. I enjoy putting things together, sadly though the hubby normally beats me to it, but I do have my own tool kit. LOL! We like to do hot dogs over a fire pit in the back yard during the summer time. I also like to do salads during the summer. Have a great week, Sherri!
